The first day of the event is spent in a whirlwind of socializing, information gathering, and tours intended to familiarize you with the course. When it comes to a special track such as the Salt Lake, this acclimatization process is necessary for competitors.
What are the conditions of the Runfire Salt Lake Ultra Trail Marathon?
We would like to talk a little bit about the track and the conditions of the competition. The track is generally flat, but the hardness of the ground can vary. Especially later in the race, you may feel like you are running in a swamp due to the salt accumulation on your shoes. For this reason, you need to be careful about choosing the right equipment, as salt can damage your shoes and clothing. Daytime temperatures can reach up to 35 degrees Celsius. Considering the temperature and exertion levels, it is necessary to be vigilant about fluid and calorie consumption.
The race starts in a counter clockwise direction. On the first day, only the 100-mile category runners set off. These runners are required to take blue, green, and orange wristbands from the wristband points, which are placed at regular intervals along the course, and then hand them over to attendants as they continue their next lap. After a total of four laps, the race is completed. Competitors should deliver their food and equipment to the attendants in the “bag drop” area so they can access it at the finish line.
